World Deaf Information Resource Project

About the World Deaf Information Resource Project

Welcome to the World Deaf Information Resource Project! This website is an initiative of the Gallaudet University Center for International Programs and Services (CIPS). Gallaudet is the only liberal arts university for deaf students in the world. CIPS operates four different programs: the English Language Institute (ELI), which teaches English and American Sign Language to deaf international students; the Global Education and Scholar Services (GESS), which promotes international exchange programs to and from Gallaudet University; the International Outreach program; and International Student Services (ISS).  CIPS is a unit of the Gallaudet University College of Professional Studies and Outreach (CPSO) and is Gallaudet's center for all things international.

Dr. Asiah Mason, director of CIPS, credits this project as being the brain child of Dr. Jay Innes, the Dean of CPSO, and of Dr. Amy Wilson, Director of Gallaudet University's graduate program in International Development.  Andrea Shettle coordinated the initial work of gathering information for this project during an internship for Gallaudet's International Development program.

What You Can Find at This Website

CIPS initiated this web site to help people find deaf-related resources around the world. As a first step in this evolving project, we have gathered contact information for international-, national-, and local-level deaf organizations in more than 145 countries.  Our goal is to add more countries when we obtain information for them. You can find these through the page entitled "Deaf and Disability Organizations and Schools."

In the future, we hope to expand the website to include many more types of deaf-related informational resources. We have a few examples of the kinds of informational resources we will want on the page entitled "Deaf Information Resources." For example, we have links to reports about the living situation of deaf people in various regions of the world and links to websites that can help deaf organizations find funding sources.

Download the Information from This Website

In addition to this website, CIPS also provides most of the same information in Word format and PDF format. Please feel free to forward any of these files to your friends via email attachment or in hard copy. CIPS will try, but cannot guarantee, to produce an updated version of this file on a periodic basis. The first edition was produced in early October 2009.  Usually, the website will be more complete and up-to-date than the files.  Further guidance on how you can distribute our information is on our page entitled "Disclaimers and Other Information."
