The Early Education Professional Development Leadership Program
Program Overview
The Early Education Professional Development Leadership Program is a 12-credit certificate program that includes four courses on leadership in early intervention/education. The program is designed for individuals who have current or prospective employment in an early intervention/educational program or a related position. The coursework is provided through two summers that include three days of face-to-face interaction with an online component and fall and spring semester courses offered online. All courses are offered for Professional Studies credit (PST). The four course sequence includes
Program Outcomes
- A certificate from Gallaudet University Gerald "Bummy" Burstein Leadership Institute Unit in Early Intervention/Education
- Knowledge of current research, development and best practices in early intervention/education
- Resources and strategies for promoting and supporting language rich environments for young deaf children
- Resources and strategies for guiding and supporting families with deaf children
- Knowledge, Skills, resources and strategies for assessing early development and providing effective instructional programming
- Opportunities for networking and support from a community of professionals providing early intervention/educational services

- EDF 795/PST 660 Socio-Cultural and Political Contexts of Early Education for Deaf/Hard of Hearing Children (3 credits)

- LIN 795/PST 661 A System Approach to Language and Communication Planning for Young Deaf/Hard of Hearing Children and their Families (3 credits)
Online
Spring:
- SWK 795/PST 662 Leadership Perspectives on Families with Deaf/Hard of Hearing Children their Cultures and Communities (3 credits)

2nd Summer:
- PST 663 A Systematic Approach to Assessment, Planning and Instructional Outcomes for Early Education (3 credits)
