Gallaudet University, the School of Graduate and Professional, and the Department of Counseling are pleased to announce that the Masters programs in School and Mental Health Counseling received official notification of accreditation through January 2010, by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). CACREP is an independent accreditation agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. CACREP accreditation recognizes that the content and quality of the education offered by the program has been evaluated extensively and meets high standards set by and for the profession. CACREP accreditation assures that appropriate knowledge and skills are included in the course of study that leads to successful entry into the counseling field.
Gallaudet University's Mental Health Counseling Program is one of only 36 CACREP-accredited Mental Health Counseling Masters-level programs in the United States. Our School Counseling program is one of 159 accredited programs. While we are the only counselor training program in the nation to offer specializations in working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals, CACREP accreditation signifies our unique status among other highly reputable counselor training programs nation-wide.
Feedback received from the 2007 CACREP site-visit team at the exit interview commended the Department for :
