SHORT BIOGRAPHY Fred R. Mangrubang is originally from the Big Island, Hawaii and has been at Gallaudet since 1983 as a middle school science teacher at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School, Freshman team leader teacher/researcher and Sophomore team science teacher/researcher at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf and as a faculty in the Department of Education. Before arriving in Washington, DC, he taught science at the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf. Dr. Mangrubang's teaching achievements are online. In addition to teaching, Dr. Mangrubang is actively involved in professional organizations related to science education. He presented workshops in teaching science to Deaf/HH children at the National level. He is actively involved with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and National Science Foundation grant review panelist for pre-college programs. He and his wife, Poh-Pin reside in Fairfax, Virginia and enjoy traveling to countries in the Far East, Southeast Asia, and Pacific Islands. When not traveling he enjoys growing Orchids and tends to his Bonsai plants in his greenhouse at home. He is an avid reader of non-fiction books, collects butterflies, and goes on hiking and camping trips somewhere in the mountains. His favorite memory is having the opportunity to see former students and share memories with them.
