SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Galvan has been in the Psychology Department at Gallaudet since 1989. His research has focused on ASL acquisition in deaf children with deaf and hearing parents and hearing adults and is currently involved in a study looking at factors that predict ASL acquisition (including gesture and visual cognition) with Pilar Pinar, Sue Mather and Amanda Holzrichter. He has also conducted cross-linguistic studies with Pilar Pinar and Sarah Taub looking at how spatial information is conveyed in English, Spanish and ASL.Dr. Galvan teaches courses in Child Development, Statistics and Research Methods, Psychology Internship and Internship Seminar, Psycholinguistics, Psychology and Deaf People, and Stress from Psychological and Biochemical Perspectives. Dr. Galvan is currently the director of the Undergraduate Program in Psychology.
