Dr. Marquessa Brown joined the social work department in 1990 as a full-time permanent faculty member and served as the Baccalaureate Program Director since 1998. Her research interested has primarily addressed the status of the South African Welfare System and HIV/AIDS knowledge among deaf South Africans. Teaching experiences have included the provision of instruction in Gallaudet's MSW Program from 1990-2000 as well as adjunct teaching at both graduate and undergraduate social work programs in the Washington, D.C. area. In addition to teaching and research interest, involvement in the practice community as a licensed Clinical Social Worker has been carried out for more than 25 years. Most recently the practice experience has focused upon the psychosocial evaluation of individuals in the hospital emergency environment.
