Application Instructions
Applications
Students must apply for financial aid EVERY YEAR. Gallaudet requires two applications in order to determine eligibility for federal and institutional aid programs:
1. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) asks for family/student income and asset information, and provides the Financial Aid Office with the family contribution amount (EFC).
You may choose any of these three methods to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):
* Apply online at http://www.FAFSA.ed.gov/ (Recommended) or
* Complete a PDF FAFSA (Note: PDF FAFSAs must be mailed for processing) or
* Request a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or 1-319-337-5665. If you are hearing impaired, please contact the TTY line at 1-800-730-8913. Gallaudet FAFSA Code: 001443 - You will need to enter this code on your FAFSA, in order for Gallaudet to receive your results.
2. The Gallaudet Institutional Financial Aid Application (IFAA) and Scholarship Supplement asks for additional information necessary to determine your financial aid eligibility and award scholarships that may match your individual profile. Be sure to complete your applications for the correct academic year.
* Application Forms for U.S. and International students. Form must be printed and mailed or dropped off at the Financial Aid Office.
BOTH the FAFSA and IFAA must be on file before aid can be determined or awarded. These two applications are sufficient to determine eligibility for all Gallaudet and federal financial aid programs.
Students/Families are encouraged to complete these applications on-line. However, hard copies are also available in the Financial Aid Office each Spring prior to the award year. For complete information on links to all application materials, click here.
Information Required
It is important to keep copies of all income tax forms because they will be needed to complete the FAFSA and are required by the Financial Aid Office to verify application information. Students who work but do not file a tax form should keep copies of their W-2 forms for this purpose. Copies of Student and Parent tax forms should be mailed to the Financial Aid Office.
Priority Deadlines
In order to be considered for University grants and scholarships, both the Gallaudet Institutional Financial Aid Application (IFAA) and valid results of the FAFSA must be received in the Financial Aid Office no later than:*
* July 1 for the Fall Semester (students enrolling for Fall/Spring or Fall only
* January 16 for the Spring Semester (students enrolling Spring only)
It is best to apply as early as possible, since institutional grants/scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
*The Financial aid Office will continue to review applications after the deadline dates; however late applications will be reviewed for Federal Grant and Loan eligibility only.
