INTRODUCTION
Information about federal sponsorship of research, training, and technical assistance is available from federal agencies directly, from the Office of Sponsored Programs, and from a variety of specialized print and web publications. The sources listed below cover a range of sponsors, disciplines, and project types; you may use the links to connect to any of these sources (COS is accessible only from a gallaudet.edu domain workstation).
THE FEDERAL REGISTER is the official record for government funding. The Federal Register is released on a daily bases and offers information for federal grant announcements, rules, proposed rules, and notices of federal agencies and organizations, as well as Executive Orders and other Presidential Documents.
COMMUNITY OF SCIENCE (COS). Gallaudet University maintains a subscription to the COS funding database. Through this far-reaching reference, faculty and staff may conduct a defined search for funding opportunities relevant to their area(s) of interest. NOTE: the COS database can only be accessed from a computer in the gallaudet.edu domain (i.e., e-mail address must end in gallaudet.edu). In addition to funding opportunities,Universityristy utilizes COS to showcase the expertise of its faculty to the world and to ensure that individual research interests may be connected to funding opportunities.
All federal agencies report their funding opportunities through http://Grants.gov and also receive applications for those funds via Grants.gov. The OSP is experienced in the use of Grants.gov and other agency based funding opportunities sources on the web and can facilitate individualized searches for funding opportunities.

TheUS Department of Education(USDE), through theOffice of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, supports research in education of individuals with disabilities, personnel preparation training programs, and research on disabilities and rehabilitation. Other offices at the agency provide support for programs designed to address post-secondary educational improvements, and adult, bilingual, vocational, and workplace education. Several units support training, and a few support drug-free programs targeted to varied audiences.
The National Science Foundation(NSF) provides funding for basic and applied research in the sciences (exclusive of the biomedical sciences), equipment and instrumentation grants, and activities in areas related to systemic reform, elementary and secondary education, undergraduate and graduate education, and research in education.
The focus of theNational Institutes of Health(NIH), a component of the Public Health Service, is on biomedical research. The agency funds research grants, program project grants, and research training through its component institutes, including the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the National Institute on Aging. Other Public Health Service components (Maternal and Child Health, Substance Abuse and Mental Health, Health Care and Financing) focus on the provision of services to targeted audiences.

THE FOUNDATION CENTER. The Foundation Center provides information on foundations, corporate giving, and related subjects. NOTE: Gallaudet faculty and staff must discuss any approach to foundations with the Development Office.
