MSCHE Accreditation

Gallaudet University is and continues to be accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Our accreditation was reaffirmed on June 26, 2008.

The reaffirmation of accreditation signifies that Gallaudet University meets all 14 MSCHE standards for educational and institutional quality required of the nation's colleges and universities. The reaffirmation comes at the end of a comprehensive planning and implementation process that began in November 2006 when the university was notified that it was out of compliance with several MSCHE standards.

Gallaudet has developed innovative new initiatives to meet the needs of students and ensure a high-caliber academic program. These initiatives include the development of a new mission statement and strategic plan; a revision of the general studies curriculum for undergraduate students based on an integrated, problem-focused approach with distinct student learning outcomes; and the establishment of a comprehensive assessment plan focused on student achievement. At the same time, the university has adopted more stringent admissions standards and renewed efforts to ensure respect for the diversity of people and ideas found on its campus.

"The MSCHE's reaffirmation of our accreditation recognizes the good work and incredible progress the Gallaudet community has made in a short time," said Dr. Robert R. Davila, president of Gallaudet University. "But this is just the beginning. The University has a sense of renewed hope and recognizes that to continue to prepare our students for success in the workplace and in life, we must continue to improve every aspect of Gallaudet. We have worked together in a critical time to not only make Gallaudet stronger but to provide its students the quality academic experience they need and deserve."
