Dear Campus Community:
In today's "Bob's Vlog," I had a conversation with Dr. Meloyde Batten-Mickens, the executive director of Facilities and Public Safety. She also chairs the University's Crisis Leadership Team. That team has representatives from different groups on campus that meet regularly to look at how Gallaudet can become more responsive to emergencies, problems, or issues that could be potentially dangerous to our students.
The issue of safety on college campuses is a very high priority for university administrators, especially in light of recent tragedies at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University. While both of these examples are extreme, it is wise to have a plan in place in case a serious situation arises at Gallaudet. Not only that, it is also good to practice that plan to make sure that all the impacted departments and individuals know what is expected of them and what they should do. It's important to note that safety, communication, and crisis management are also important for all levels of emergencies.
Please watch "Bob's Vlog" for valuable information about what Gallaudet is doing in terms of emergency preparedness, and also to find out more about what you can do personally.
Sincerely,
Robert Davila
President
