Dear Campus Community:
I invited two guests—Diana Gates, Deaf Collections librarian, and Jeff Peterson, Archives technician—to join me on “Bob’s Vlog” this week to talk about Gallaudet’s activities related to the 200th anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln.Throughout Washington, D.C., and all across the nation, many people are celebrating the Lincoln bicentennial. Gallaudet has done the same. As you know, the campus began in 1857 as a school for young deaf and hard of hearing children. Seven years later, in 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Enabling Act—also known as Gallaudet’s charter—to add a collegiate program to the school. That was the beginning of Gallaudet’s relationship with President Lincoln.
For more information, you can go to the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission website at www.lincolnbicentennial.gov or the Abraham Lincoln and Gallaudet University website at lincoln200.gallaudet.edu.
I hope you enjoy this week's vlog.
Sincerely,
Robert R. Davila
President
