UNIVERSITY HOLIDAYS
The University is officially closed on Monday, May 26 and Friday, July 4, 2008. Classes will not be held on those days. The library and most campus offices will be closed. The Food Court will be open. Instructors may schedule extra classes to make up for the holidays.
CAMPUS PARKING
Parking on campus is $3 per week or $20 for the entire summer (May 19 - Aug 8, 2008.) You are responsible for obtaining a parking permit from the Department of Public Safety in Carlin Hall upon your arrival. All unregistered or illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed, so be sure to get your parking permit by Monday morning. BANKING
We recommend that summer students bring travelers checks to campus. There are ATM machines at Benson Hall and the Student Union Building, but there is no other banking services available on-campus.
BISON SHOP
The Bison Shop is located in the Student Union Building (SUB) and is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m In addition to selling textbooks and deafness-related books, the Bison Shop sells a variety of merchandise such as school supplies, clothing, snacks, cards, gift items, gift certificates, and memorabilia. Personal checks (payable to Bison Shop) are accepted. A $25 service fee is charged for returned checks. VISA and MasterCard are also accepted.
OFFICE FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
If you have a special need and require accommodations, it is your responsibility to provide documentation from an authorized individual (medical professional, psychologist, etc.) indicating the accommodations (low vision interpreting, tactile interpreting, visual aids, mobility orientation etc,) that you need while here at Gallaudet University. Neither the Office of Students with Disabilities (OSWD) nor the Department of Public Safety (DPS) can provide services without this documentation. In order to facilitate a seamless delivery of accommodations and services, we ask that documentation (medical professional, psychologist, etc,) of special needs be submitted to the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSWD) prior to your arrival on campus. LIBRARY
The Gallaudet University Library in the Merrill Learning Center maintains one of the most comprehensive collections in the world on the subject of deafness. A schedule of library hours will be provided at check-in Your Gallaudet University temporary ID will give you library privileges. The Library is closed on May 26 and July 4, 2008.
MEDICAL FACILITIES
There are no medical facilities for visiting students. Students must arrange for health services off campus. You are responsible for your own medical insurance. However, all students attending classes on campus must complete a Medical History Form which should be sent directly to Gallaudet University's Student Health Services. Compliance with the District of Columbia law requires that all students under the age of 26 provide documentation of immunity from Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella. Additionally, the University also requires immunization for Tetanus/Diptheria and documentation of a tuberculin skin test within 12 months prior to starting at Gallaudet. It is mandatory that you receive your immunizations before beginning your class.

RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
Gallaudet offers a variety of fun and fitness activities during the summer. The use of all facilities in the Field House is included with your unit fee. Pool, running track, cybex weight room, and tennis, basketball, handball, and racquetball courts are available. A schedule of organized events and classes will be provided with check-in materials.
SECURITY
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is located on the ground floor of Carlin Hall. The Security staff is on duty 24 hours a day and is available for assistance and emergencies.
SHUTTLE SERVICE
Gallaudet transportation offers shuttle bus service to and from Union Station, as well as the new Metro subway station located at Florida and New York Avenues. You must have a valid Gallaudet ID to use the bus. A schedule for the shuttle and the area Metro system will be provided at check-in.
VISITORS CENTER
The Visitors Center, located in the Edward Minor Gallaudet building, is open Monday - Friday, 9 am - 4 pm. Campus tours are arranged by appointment only. Contact the Visitors Center at (202) 651-5050 (tty/v) if you are interested in a tour.
HOTEL
Located on the Gallaudet campus, the Kellogg Conference Hotel offers hotel-style housing. Call (202) 651-6000 for summer availability and costs.
OFF-CAMPUS STUDENTS
Students who live off-campus may also purchase a meal plan. The commuter daily rate is $28.00 for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Please complete the Guest Housing/Meal Plan Application to let us know which days you would like the meal plan to cover.
VENDING SERVICES
Vending machines are available throughout the campus for your convenience.
PETS
Only certified guide dogs are allowed in the residence halls, dining facilities, and classrooms. You must provide proof of certification to CPSO's Summer Programs and to Campus Life.
UNIVERSITY LIABILITY
The University is not responsible for loss or damage to student property or harm to students. If you suffer a loss, please notify the Department of Public Safety (DPS). The University reserves the right to enter any dorm room for purposes of inspection, cleaning, repair, improvement, painting, maintenance, or assessment of damages.
