HOW TO APPLY FOR HOUSING

Students who live in the dorms must fill out a Guest Housing/Meal Plan Application. Applications must be submitted with your application. Availability of housing is not guaranteed for late applicants. All resident students must abide by residence hall rules and regulations; violations of these rules will result in immediate expulsion. A copy of the rules and regulations will be provided at check-in.

CHECK-IN

Pick up your registration materials (Access Card, class schedule, etc.) in the Hall Memorial Building (HMB) Atrium area on Sunday afternoon between 12-6 pm or from HMB, room S494B on Monday before your class starts. Check-in and sign language screening will be held from 3-5pm the Sunday preceding the start of a class session for students in ASL classes.

If you are staying on campus and arrive after 6 pm, the front gate guards will direct you to the Department of Public Safety (DPS). DPS staff will give you your check-in packet and direct you to your dorm where residence staff will assist you. If you are staying off campus, you may check in on Sunday or the morning before your class begins in HMB, room S494B.

CHECK-OUT

You must check-out of the residence hall by noon the day after your course ends. Prior to your departure, you are responsible for cleaning your room and emptying all trash. Turn in your room key and Access Card to the Residence Assistant on duty in the residence hall where you are staying. If you do not return your room key and/or Access Card, you will be charged $75 for each item.

LAUNDRY FACILITIES

Each dorm is equipped with debit card-operated washers and dryers and vending supplies. These cards may be purchased at the Department of Public Safety, located on the ground floor of Carlin Hall.

PHONES

Pay phones are located in various locations throughout the dorm and on campus. If you wish to have phone service installed in your room, contact Verizon at (202) 346-1000 (V) or (800) 564-0999 (TTY). You are responsible for initiating and disconnecting service with Verizon. Phone service cannot be arranged until you have checked into to your dorm room.

DORMITORY ASSIGNMENT

The Residence Assistant will give you your room key and inform you of your room assignment. There is a $75 fee charge for a replacement of the lost key or lock change. Lost or stolen keys should be reported to your Residence Assistant immediately.

RESIDENCE HALLS

All dorms are air conditioned and equipped with visual alerting systems. Each room or suite is furnished with twin beds, study desks, and chairs. There is also drawer and closet storage. Your $10 linen fee provides for a pillow, blanket, and sheets for each bed. Students will need to bring their own hangers, mattress pad, alarm clock, desk lamp, computer, telephone, etc. if desired.

ROOM FEE

Room assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may choose between single or double occupancy. Due to the limited number of single rooms available, there is no guarantee that a request for a single room will be honored. Occasionally, people request and pay for a double room and are never assigned a roommate. These "luck of the draw," people are not required to pay the higher rate. Only individuals registered for summer programs, 18 years or older, or high school graduates, may request dormitory housing (no exceptions). No family housing is available. Students staying for one week or more must pay the weekly rate as outlined on the Guest Housing/Meal Plan Application.

Double Room: $36/night
Single Room: $72/night

An alternative to residence hall accommodations is the Kellogg Conference Hotel at Gallaudet University. They can be reached at 202-651-6000.

BOARD FEE

Students who reside on campus are required to participate in the meal plan. The university dining hall is located in the Agatha Hanson Plaza. The menu includes a wide variety of meats, vegetables, vegetarian dishes, salads, deli sandwiches, desserts, and beverages.

MEAL PLAN

$28.00 daily (3 meals). For students staying on campus for one week programs or more, housing and meal costs are charged by the week.

ON CAMPUS EATERIES

There are five meal services on the campus: the Agatha Hanson Plaza Dining Hall, Rathskeller, Market Place, Java Corner, and the Kellogg Conference Hotel Bistro. Food service hours will be available upon check-in.

MEAL CARDS

You will receive your ID/Meal/Dorm Access Card during check-in. Cards are not transferable and are valid until the expiration date statedon your card. Cards must be shown each time you enter the eatery place and cannot be used for food at the Bison Shop or Bistro Restaurant at the Kellogg Hotel. Any unused meals do not carry over to the next week.

REPLACEMENT ID/MEAL/DORM ACCESS CARD

Your Access Card is used as an ID card, meal card, and dorm access card. A $75 fee will be charged for each lost or non-returned card.
