American Sign Language (ASL) Courses

Due to the intensive nature of the courses, you may take no more than two levels of ASL (I-VI) during the Summer sessions.This policy does not include registering for Visual Gestural Communication (VGC), Fingerspelling or ASL Special Topics courses during any of the three sessions. ASL courses are not available for audit. Any requests for exceptions to the audit policy due to extraordinary circumstances must be made in writing to summer@gallaudet.edu.

Session B 7/7/08-7/18/08

Session C 7/21/08-8/1/08

Orientation - Student orientation will be held on the Sunday before the start of each session. The dates and time for Orientation are June 22, July 6 and July 20, 2008 beginning at 2:00 pm in the Hall Memorial Building (HMB) Atrium.

Class Placement - To ensure that you are placed in the appropriate level of ASL, review the course descriptions and select the ASL level that seems best for you. Return the completed ASL Questionnaire with your course registration. Adjustments to your registration may be made based upon information received on your Questionnaire,so please answer all questions. ASL classes at Gallaudet University may not be equivalent to classes you have taken at other locations. Your ASL course placement will be confirmed by your instructor at orientation on the first day of class. No changes in the class assignment will be made after the first day of class, unless extraordinary circumstances exist. These situations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Screenings are not needed for VGC, Fingerspelling and ASL Special Topics.
