About Merit Scholarships

Gallaudet University offers merit-based scholarships to deaf and hard of hearing students whose scholastic and personal achievements are exemplary. All newly admitted incoming freshmen and transfer applicants will automatically be considered for all merit-based scholarships. No separate forms are necessary.

In addition to ACT or SAT test scores, GPA and letters of recommendation, special talents, leadership qualities and extra-curricular involvement will be considered for these awards. These special talents may include: creative writing, leadership, debate team or student body government membership, involvement with the arts (acting, film, photography, drawing, dancing, sculpting, etc.) and community service, as well as other indicators of general excellence.

Scholarships will be awarded to students in order of receipt of applications and in order of acceptance of offers of admission to Gallaudet University and acceptance of merit based scholarship awards.

Scholarship winners will be notified by the Admissions Office. Timely responses to admission and of merit-based scholarship awards are important because of the limited number of available merit-based scholarships.

Note: All Room and Board portions of merit based scholarships apply only students who live on campus housing and participate in University meal plans. Students who elect to live off campus will receive only the tuition portion of their merit award.
